Caring for Your New Vuba Stone Surface

Caring for Your New Vuba Stone Surface

A new Vuba Stone surface is built to last, but the first few days matter. So does regular upkeep after that. Here's what to know.

The First 24 to 72 Hours

Vuba Stone needs time to cure. Stay off the surface for 24 to 48 hours after installation. Wait 48 to 72 hours before driving on it. These timeframes shift with temperature, so check with your installer for exact timing.

Keep the surface dry during this window. Moisture on the curing resin will weaken and discolor it. Your install team will place tape or barriers around the perimeter to keep people and pets off. If you have animals that roam the yard, a deterrent device can help. Footprints that happen before the surface cures can't be removed later.

A Few Habits That Protect the Surface

Once cured, Vuba Stone holds up well to daily life. A handful of habits keep it looking its best for years.

Turn wheels while moving. Turning a vehicle's wheels while stopped or moving slowly can dislodge the surface aggregates and weaken the matrix underneath. Keep the car rolling when you turn.

Watch what you set on it. Heavy equipment, like a dumpster, can damage the surface on impact. Car jacks should sit on a wooden board to spread the load. Steel items left in place can leach rust that's tough to clean.

Keep chemicals off the surface. Gas and solvents break down the resin binder over time, which can loosen the stone. If something spills, rinse it off right away.

Move planters and storage boxes now and then. Anything sitting flush against the surface for long stretches can cause discoloration, since the stone underneath doesn't get air or sunlight. A raised planter solves this. So does moving storage boxes every so often.

Skip metal shovels and blades in the winter. Metal scraped across the surface can damage the Vuba Stone matrix. Plastic shovels and plastic snowblower or plow blades won't.

Routine Cleaning

Power-washing is the easiest way to keep Vuba Stone clean, especially with lighter colors. Hold the wand at a 90-degree angle, at least 12 inches from the surface, so you don't dislodge the aggregates.

A few common issues and how to handle them:

  • Oil spills: Blot with an absorbent material right away. If a stain sets in, Vuba Oil & Grease Cleaner will lift it.
  • Rust marks: Usually from metal grills, flower baskets, or other items left in contact with the surface. Vuba Stone Rust Remover handles these.
  • Tire marks: Steam cleaning or scrubbing with detergent and hot water clears most tire marks.
  • Weeds, moss, and algae: Power-washing removes most growth. For stubborn moss or algae in shaded, damp spots, pretreat with Vuba Surface Cleaner first.
  • Mineral deposits from sprinklers: Power-wash to remove. For deposits that don't budge, pretreat with vinegar first.
  • Fruit and leaf stains: Clear organic debris before it has a chance to leach into the surface. For soiled spots, apply Vuba Surface Cleaner, let it sit 10 to 15 minutes, scrub stubborn areas with a stiff-bristle brush, then rinse clean. Keep runoff away from plants. A light coat of X Protect Vuba Surface Sealer, applied 24 to 48 hours after cleaning, adds extra protection.
