Crawl Space Repair Photo Album: Insulation Replacement in Pleasant View, TN

Mike in Pleasant View, TN, contacted Frontier about falling insulation in his crawl space. He wanted the old insulation removed and replaced with a better solution. During the inspection, the design specialist found high humidity was causing the insulation to become heavy and fall. A small section of the floor also needed additional support. The Frontier crew removed the old insulation and installed SilverGlo graphite insulation along the crawl space walls. Existing mold was removed with soda blasting, and SmartJacks were installed to restore support to the affected floor. A TripleSafe sump pump was placed at the lowest point of the crawl space to collect and discharge water through an IceGuard and LawnScape Outlet. Drainage Matting and CleanSpace liner were then installed along the floor to encapsulate the space, and a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier was added to control humidity long term.

Falling Insulation

Traditional fiberglass insulation absorbs moisture from the air, causing it to become heavy and fall out of place.

Relative Humidity over 60%

The Relative Humidity in the crawl space was 71%, which is why the insulation was falling out of place.

Drywall Damage

Lack of support in the crawl space has caused the floor to become uneven under the door, which led to cracking near the corner of the frame.

SmartJacks were installed to lift the floor and provide support to floor joists.

Drainage Matting

Drainage Matting allows water to flow downhill towards the sump pump for removal.

SilverGlo insulation has a reflective radiant barrier on both sides and offers 24% better thermal resistance than standard foam.

Installing CleanSpace

SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier

To prevent mold growth from high humidity, a SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier was installed. This dehumidifier can remove 95 to 100 pints of water per day.

TripleSafe Sump Pump

The TripleSafe Sump Pump contains three pumps, which can remove 6,200 gallons of water per hour if needed.

Outside Drainage

The sump pump sends water outside the home through an IceGuard and LawnScape Outlet. The outlet is placed downhill to ensure water doesn't return to the foundation.
