Challenge

This family had the common basement problem of water entering from all around the lower walls. This is caused by Hydrostatic pressure - water pushing in through the porous concrete.

Because it was happening with each rain, with the most water coming in at ankle height, the constant moisture was causing both mold growth and an inability to use the space for any type of living space or storage.

Solution

The solution is to have an internal waterproofing system to capture water at the common source of entry - along the base of the walls.

Because this particular home has a monolithic foundation, it makes any sort of excavating much more difficult, so we have an alternative product which sits above the floor and works just as well. Drytrak is a heavy vinyl baseboard that is stuck to the floor and will channel the water to the sump pump.

Because basements are below ground, water will seep through all cracks, holes and joints. Even dry weather will cause the soil to shrink away from the foundation and create a larger void for the next bout of rain.

Now that the Drytrak has been installed you can see that it fits into the room with minimal disruption to the look or the space. And it has already started work on keeping the floor dry.

Now that there is a sump pump system to pump water out of the home, the water management wouldn't be complete without ensuring the water can continue to flow through the external pipes whatever the weather - this is done by adding IceGuards to the discharge lines. It has special holes to eject the water in the event the pipes are blocked or frozen.
