Proper Description: The SaniDry Basement Air System is a high-capacity, high efficiency dehumidification system with air filtration, in a single unit. The SaniDry Sedona takes up to 95 pints per day, @ 80ºF, 60% RH out of your basement while using the same energy as a “40 pint” (18.9L) dehumidifier.

And it filters particles out of the air to less than 2 microns in size – which is smaller than any mold spore or dust mite dropping. Unlike other dehumidifiers, it is designed to be effective at the lower temperatures found in basements and crawl spaces.

We’ve had plenty of homeowners who have called us hours after their waterproofing job was installed to tell us they already can feel a big difference in the air quality of their home. You’ll see the concrete floor look drier, the basement air feels nice and dry, and musty basement smells and odors go away. I’ll put it to you this way, I never had a customer say, “come and take this out of my house, it doesn’t do what you say”. It’s that kind of unit. It’s a basement miracle machine!

It takes multiple dehumidifiers, maybe up to 6 or 8 of them in your basement to get the results that you would get with a single SaniDry. The SaniDry Basement Air System can reduce the relative humidity below 60% where mold won’t grow, in a 2,500 square foot basement. It will have no problem making your basement feel dry and comfortable.

Dehumidifiers are rated to determine how many pints they can claim they take out of the air in a 24 hour period.

Dehumidifiers are tested in a chamber that is at 80° F at 60% relative humidity. That’s the standard. And in that room, the big box store unit can pull 40-pints of moisture out of the air in a 24-hour period and the SaniDry Basement Air System can pull out 95 pints of moisture out of the air in a 24-hour period.

Relative humidity means how full of water the air is compared to the maximum amount of water it can hold AT THAT TEMPERATURE. Another fact is that warm air holds more water than cold air – by a lot. In fact, that’s how dehumidifiers work – they have to cool the air below it’s dewpoint to get the water to condense out of the air. 80 degree air is hot air – and big air, and air that holds lots of water. It’s pretty easy for a dehumidifier to get water out of the air when the air is so warm.

The lowest you can cool air before freezing is 32 degrees. Here’s the big problem. A basement or crawl space is cool, perhaps only 65° F. We have a 33° window to cool the air, we lost a third of the temperature zone to work with to get the water out. The SaniDry is specifically designed to work in the cool environments found in basements and crawl spaces. That’s why we call it a “Basement Air System” and not a dehumidifier. It’s simply a different machine for a different job.

If you put the two machines side by side in a cool basement or crawl space and stuck the hoses in a bucket, the SaniDry would take out eight to ten times the water as a household dehumidifier. And the electricity costs would be 11 cents a pint for the household unit and only 3.3 cents per pint for the SaniDry.

The SaniDry will do the job. It will keep the Relative under 60% and mold doesn’t have a chance – even in the most humid summer months.

There are many species of mold, but they all need three things to survive. It needs organic material - that’s anything that at one time was alive – like the wood, paper, cardboard, drywall, leather or latex paint in your home. It needs mold spores – that airborne seeds of mold which are everywhere. Lastly, mold needs a relative humidity of over 60%. So out of the three things mold needs to survive, we can only control the relative humidity.

If you see notice rust on nails or joint hangers, the relative humidity in your basement must be around 100% causing condensation to form on the interior surfaces during the warmer months of the year.

There are many species of mold in our environment and the mold you hear about and read about that affects the health of some humans, generally needs a relative humidity over 60%.

Buying a dehumidifier online.

The weight is closer to 130 lbs once packed and ready for shipping. It will be delivered by a trucking company, you will need to meet and get it off the truck, take it home, unpack, discard the packing material and pallet, move the unit to the basement or crawl space, read directions, setup, and install yourself. You may or may not have a service line to call if you have any problems. You will also need to find someone to service 9 months to a year down the road as well as find the appropriate filters to replace. If you needed to send the unit back for any reason that would also be very costly by the time you repack, work out logistics to ship back, and possibly pay the cost of freight.
