Ruthie had lived in her Tennessee home since 1959. Over time she realized that her floors were getting "bouncy" and uneven. She rarely went into the crawl space, but she knew it was not in the best shape.
She had planned to stay here for the rest of her life, but she wanted to make sure her home maintained its value, so making sure the floors won't ever fall in is a major key to keeping value up!
Ruthie decided it was time to get a few prices from different places. She was looking for a contractor who had great quality products at a reasonable price.
She called us up to book her free inspection and our trained inspector came over to take a look. At the inspection, our inspector found an abandoned Mud Daubers(a type of wasp) nest. While they are not typically dangerous, their old nests are often taken over by a more dangerous wasp species. Our inspector also noted the broken crawl space door, which could let in tons more pests than just wasps, as well as cold winter drafts (which could make their floors cold). He also took moisture and humidity tests. Their wood content moisture in most areas was over 20%, which we will get into later. The relative humidity in the space was 73%. Mold, mold spores, and dust mites thrive in environments over 60%. They are common indoor allergens that could lead to the home's inhabitants having common cold-like symptoms.
The moisture in the space was so high that their wood started to decay at points, which led to the floors above not having enough support and becoming "bouncy" and uneven.
