Looking for an "out of the box" way to dispose of an old vehicle? Frontier Basement Systems of Clarksville, TN found a solution that could save a life, too!
Joelton, TN - March 28, 2014
What do you do with a vehicle on it’s last legs? Do you trade it in? Do you call a tow truck to take it to the salvage yard? Well, Frontier Basement Systems of Clarksville, Tennessee came up with an “out of the box” idea. They donated their more than slightly used 2004 Ford Taurus to the Montgomery County Rescue Squad for training. “The vehicle was in need of a transmission overhaul in the very near future; and then the fuel pump went out of it. We knew we needed to either trade it in or scrap it. One of our company employees was also a volunteer on the Rescue Squad and explained that they rarely get the opportunity to practice extrication exercises with newer vehicles that haven’t already been wrecked”, Layne Gebers, President of Frontier Basement Systems explained. “It’s an easy decision to give the Fire Department our vehicle. We hope the training helps save a life.”
On February 22nd the vehicle was used for training. Eight volunteer members of the Montgomery County Rescue Squad practiced extrication techniques with the end goal of performing flawlessly under real life emergency situations. The training lasted most of the day. Captain Douglas Hall stated, “The fire department is indebted to Frontier Basement Systems for the donation. This is a great opportunity to sharpen our skills even though we hope to never need to use the training in real life.”
