Like any home appliance or system, maintenance is strongly recommended to make sure everything is functioning properly.
A Frontier service technician went out to this Kenton TN home to check the system. He was able to service the triple safe single sump pump. He found there had been pump failure at some point, the pump failure caused by excess filth in sump liner.
The check valve of this systems is designed to regulate pressure between water from the sump pump and the air in the discharge pipe above. Regulating the pressure is important in allowing collected water to be pumped out of the system. However if this is clogged, like pictured above, the water can not be pumped through the discharge line.
As water collects the liner will flood first. If an alarms is present you will hear the beeping when water levels are too high. If there is no alarm and maintenance has not been done, the water will have no choice but to flood that encapsulated area.
In this home, because of the clog, the pump did not activate when the ground water got high.
He cleaned up muddy area that had flooded, cleared out sump liner, changed the check valve, flood tested pump several times and it ensured it was working properly. He changed the batter of the water watch alarm as well. As part of the service, he serviced CleanSpace and made few minor repairs as needed.
Our service technician did suggest adding a M137 cast iron sump pump, an ice guard outlet, and an UltraSump battery back up system to fully protect the home against any other unexpected. The client decided not to move forward with these upgrades at this time but understands they are available should they want additional protection in the future.
